Review the Candidates Running in This Week's School Board Elections

Both Comsewogue and Port Jefferson School Districts have seats up for grab this year.

Port Jefferson has a hot contest brewing in its school board election this year. There are five candidates seeking three open seats in the district.

At Comsewogue, the election this year is less dramatic. There are three open seats with the three incumbents all running for them, guaranteeing they will all be re-elected.

Voting for Comsewogue School District will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the , 565 Bicycle Path, Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.

John Swenning

Swenning is currently president of the Comsewogue school board and he is seeking re-election. He is a graduate of the school and has lived in the community for more than 40 years. He has been a board member for 10 years.

Lance Brown

Brown is currently vice president of the Comsewogue school board and he is seeking re-election for his third term. According to a story in The Port Times Record, Brown, who is married and has two children, is a sergeant with the Nassau County Police Department, a lieutenant in the Terryville Fire Department and a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve.

Ed Barry

Barry is currently a Trustee of the Comsewogue school board and he is seeking re-election. According to a profile in The Port Times Record, Barry works as a teacher and has been on the Board of Education for six years. He is married with four children and has one granddaughter.

Voting for Port Jefferson School District will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the .

Ellen Boehm

Boehm is retiring from her position as a teaching assistant in the district for over a dozen years this June. Now she is running for the Board of Education.

Jim Laffey

Laffey, a teacher, has 10 years of experience in business as well. The current school board member is one of five seeking three open seats.

Vincent Ruggiero

Ruggiero, a lifelong educator in Central Islip School District, is one of five candidates looking to fill three school board seats.

Shawn Cohen

Cohen, a father of two children in the school district, has been a regular at board meetings for a couple of years, and says the board can do a better job of setting the expectations of the public.

Mark Doyle

Doyle, current president of the Port Jefferson Board of Education, is running for his second term.
