Middle School Student Named Violin Scholarship Winner

Mayu Takeuchi, a sixth grader at Port Jefferson Middle School who has been playing violin since the first grade, has been awarded the Suffolk County Music Educators Association Burnhart Rydzeski Scholarship, which will allow her the chance to attend a six-week summer music camp this summer at SUNY Oneonta.

In her award letter, the scholarship judges wrote: "The committee reviewed numerous applications and was quite impressed with your musical background, experiences and talent."

Mayu, one of only two recipients of this summer camp scholarship, said she is looking forward to making new friends at the camp. "I am excited for everyone to play together and to just have fun," she said.
