Newsweek Features Port Jefferson High School in National Rankings

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School named among the top 2,000 high schools in the nation.

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School has been ranked among the top 2,000 schools in the nation by Newsweek, the Port Jefferson School District recently announced.

The school is No. 546 in the nation, and came in at No. 82 in New York State and No. 10 in Suffolk County.

Superintendent Kenneth Bossert said the district is pleased with the recognition.

“It is a direct reflection of the efforts of our students, faculty, staff and parents," he said in a statement. "Placement on this noteworthy list is something the community can take great pride in."

The rankings are based on graduation rate, college acceptance rate, average SAT/ACT scores, the percentage of students who have taken advanced and college-level courses and tests, and the average scores on those tests.

The ranking comes on the heels of a similar set of rankings published by The Washington Post, in which Vandermeulen High School came in No. 339 out of 1,933 schools ranked nation-wide.
