High School and Middle School students in Port Jefferson school district got a lesson in civics on Election Day as they participated in a mock vote to held through the Pearson Foundation’s My Voice National Student Mock Election program to see who they would pick as the next President.
The vote was organized by high school social studies teacher Donna Levine and done on computers in the school’s library and coincided with mock elections in schools, community centers, libraries and homes across the United States.
In a statement, the school district called it "the country’s largest civic education project."
According to the district, national results for the mock election showed President Obama with 460 electoral votes and 59.9 percent of the popular vote in New York State. Governor Romney received 33.7 percent of the popular vote.
