PHOTO: Scholars, Student-Athletes Honored at BOE Meeting

Students recognized by Board of Education.

Members of the Port Jefferson School District administration and Board of Education recognized some recent student achievers at its last BOE meeting.

Top qualifiers in the SCRIPPS Spelling Bee, National History Bee, National Geographic Bee and the Stock Market Game included fourth-graders Aaron Held, Ameen Khan, Lucas Welinder and Peggy Yin, as well as fifth-graders Gavin Chambers, Dylan Dugourd, Christine Iasso and Guiseppina Than.

And in the athletic rings, Matteo DeVincenzo – the district's first state wrestling finalist in 25 years – was recognized, as was track runner and state intersectional champ James Burke.
