Port Jeff Takes on West Babylon on The Challenge

Cable show matches up high school students in academic competition.

Helping to kick off the first round of the new season of the quiz show "The Challenge," students from will take on kids from West Babylon on Monday, Jan. 2 at 6:30 p.m.

The Port Jefferson team is represented by Cole Conte, Isabelle Stark, Emma Neiman (Captain), Zachary Graziano and Weien Xu (Alternate). The academic advisor is Laurie McMillen. The show tests competing teams on their knowledge of history, arts and literature, current events, math, and science in front of a live studio audience.

This season 32 teams of the 192 competing from around the tri-state area come from Suffolk County. According to a statement from Cablevision announcing the show, the schools advance though a series of elimination rounds with each regional champion winning $2,500 for their school. The winner of the tri-state championship will receive $10,000 and each student in the final championship game will receive $500.

The Challenge is shown Sunday through Friday throughout the season on channel 14 on Cablevision.
