Report: Comsewogue Students Speak Out Against Violence With Silence

Students dressed up to symbolize those who committed suicide after being bullied.

Black-clad students from an anti-bullying committee at spend the school day with the word victim written across their shirts giving fellow students and teachers the silent treatment to portray kids who committed suicide as a result of bullying.

The Port Times Record wrote about the 10 students who staged the event on Jan. 5 to "show the importance of every human life," according to Samantha Perez, a member of the committee who participated in the event.

"Joseph Pifko, a social worker and student assistant counselor at Comsewogue, said the students chose to take action in a place they spend most of their time," the paper reported.

"As a teacher I could go in and do a billion presentations, but what is unique about this is that the students have now kind of grabbed the ball and run with it," Pifko told The Port Times Record. "This is coming from them. They want to change the climate of their school."
