Ryan Zinna, a second grade student at Norwood Elementary, has been battling more than just schoolwork since kindergarten. Zinna was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer, preventing him from enjoying his first year of elementary school.
After a year of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Zinna was able to return to school. “Ryan and his family were thrilled this year, when he was on the road to recovery and returned to Norwood Elementary for second grade. His friends were thrilled to have him back and healthy,” said Gina Squitieri on the Warriors For Ryan Facebook page.
“Unfortunately, the family was devastated to learn last month that doctors had discovered another brain tumor during routine testing.”
Squitieri, along with other members of the community, have banned together to host a fundraiser to help Zinna’s family through this difficult time.
On Jan 25. and 26, Applebee’s in Miller Place will host a Flapjack Fundraiser breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with balloon animals, face painting, and characters. The event only costs $10 and all proceeds will go to the Zinna family.
As a special treat to whoever comes, Comsewogue teachers and superintendent Joseph Rella will be the ones behind the table serving the breakfast.
Tickets will be available at the door. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit their Facebook site.
