Students Raise $12k for Dodging Diabetes

Ten-team dodgeball tournament went to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The second annual Dodge to Cure Diabetes fundraiser was held on March 1 at Port Jefferson High School, raising $12,000 for research.

Organized by high schoolers and led by senior class officer Justin Jones and members of the Student Organization, proceeds from the event went to benefit the Norwalk, Conn.-based Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

“This event is the best part of the year by far,” said Jones, whose sister has juvenile diabetes. “Every student loves to participate, and we raise a lot of money and awareness, too.”

In attendance were teachers, administrators and parents, all there to support and cheer on the teams.

Team T1D (Type 1 Diabetes) not only won the tournament, but also beat out parents and staff in a game following the tourney.
