Supporters of Public Education Plan To Picket Senator Flanagan's Office Friday

Educators, parents, students, and teachers plan to gather outside of Flanagan's office on Friday.

The Port Jefferson Station Teachers Association (PJSTA), along with other supporters of public education, have decided to come together to picket outside of Senator John Flanagan's office on Friday.

According to the PJSTA, Flanagan has been hosting meetings around Long Island to hear parents concerns regarding the recent changes in curriculum. However, he has been controlling the meetings with an invite only policy. This event is an opportunity for all to come, speak, and let their voices be heard.

"Senator Flanaganʼs support of this reckless school reform agenda in New York State, coupled with his support for NYSED Commissioner John King's common core high stakes testing reforms demonstrates the influence that corporate money is having on our local politicians," said PJSTA in a statement.

The PJSTA is asking for anyone in the community interested in taking a stand against these issues to meet them Friday outside of Flanagan's office, located at 260 East Main Street in Smithtown, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
