Voters Overwhelmingly Pass Comsewogue School Budget

Two new members also elected to board of education.

Comsewogue school district voters passed a $76.5 million spending budget on Tuesday for the 2011-2012 school year by a vote of 1239 to 523. They also voted in two new board members, Alexandra Gordon and James Sanchez.

The budget represents a slight decrease in spending from last year but does raise school taxes by almost 10 percent for homeowners. To help save about 26 teaching positions the Comsewogue teachers association contributed $1.4 million back to the district. Another $100,000 was given back by school administrators.

During the lead up to the election for the community to bear while others but bettering the school curriculum.

Voting took place at gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
