Comsewogue Boys Lacrosse Extends Perfect Season

Girls lacrosse, golf and track are also in the Warriors sports notebook.

Lacrosse has taken most of the top headlines in spring sports in the past and this year is no different as the boy’s team extended their perfect season to 13-0 with a 12-1 thrashing of Rocky Point. Connor Russell, Ryan Brunet and Tom Hughes each had a hat trick for the Warriors. Comsewogue is currently in first place in Division II and win or lose their final game against Islip that’s where they should stay- power points or not, since the next best record in the division is held by Shoreham-Wading River at 13-2.  Islip is third at 11-2.

The girl’s team won in equally dominating fashion Thursday against Center Moriches, knocking off the Red Devils 11-3. Kate Znaniecki paced the Lady Warriors with four goals while Marykate McCormick added a pair of goals and three assists.

Yet despite posting a stellar 11-4 overall record, the Warriors are still uncertain of a playoff spot. Comsewogue is currently in 10th place among Division II schools with a 121.510 power point ranking with one game to go. A win over number two Sayville this week would in all likelihood propel them into the post season. Sayville has a 13-2 overall record behind only top ranked and unbeaten Hauppauge. Head coach Nicole Kidd is optimistic.

“I think win or lose we’re in,” said Kidd. “I don’t think that this is a make it or break it game. But I think that we can play with them. We’ll be in it win it.”

Sayville is one of the two teams that Comsewogue has never beaten. The other is Shoreham-Wading River who the Warriors lost 10-9 last Monday as SWR’s Lauren Lustgarten broke a 9-9 tie with 6:42 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Wildcats their margin of victory.

The boy’s golf team ended the regular season on a down note as Sachem East blanked the Warriors 9-0. Comsewogue finishes the season with a 2-10 overall record.

Comsewogue also notched another unbeaten spring sport in girl’s track. The Lady Warriors improved their record to 5-0 with a narrow 79-72 win over second place Huntington last week.
