Kevin Cassese, Former Comsewogue Lacrosse Player, to Coach U.S. National Team

Former All-American will coach the U.S, National Team in lacrosse for the second time.

Kevin Cassese who played lacrosse for the and is currently the head coach for the men’s lacrosse team at Lehigh University will coach the U.S. Men’s Senior National Team at the Champion Challenge in an exhibition match against Notre Dame at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida on Jan 30.

This is not the first time Cassese has coached the team. He coached the U.S. National Team when it defeated Harvard last October.

Cassese joined a nascent Comsewogue lacrosse team in the 1990s and went on to win the New York State championship in his junior year with the team. He made All-American and as a senior, Cassese won the Lt. Ray Enners Award in lacrosse presented by the Suffolk County Boys Lacrosse Coaches Association. The website for the award says that one lacrosse player per year is given the award to an athlete who best exemplifies courage, teamwork, skill and leadership.

He played college at Duke University and went on to coach at Stony Brook University briefly before being snatched up by his former alma mater. In 2007 he landed his present job at Lehigh as head coach.

“I have a tremendous sense of pride in our national team and in representing the Red, White and Blue,” Cassese said. “I look forward to leading a highly competitive group against the Irish next Sunday.”

In addition to being a coach, Cassese is still a player himself. Last summer he played for Team USA at the World Lacrosse Championships in Manchester, England.
