Locals Pipe In With Predictions for Sunday's New York Jets Game Against the Pittsburgh Steelers

Port Jefferson Station residents told us how they feel the Jets will do against the Steelers in this Sunday's AFC Campionship game.

This Sunday marks one of the most important nights of the football season: the AFC Championship game. With two strong teams, the New York Jets, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing against each other, it makes people wonder which team is going to make it to the Super Bowl.

While the Jets beat the Steelers in week 15, with a close 22-17 score, it seems like it could be anyone’s game. Even though predictions from sports sites are betting against the Jets due to the Steelers great defense, Port Jefferson Station residents feel like their team is going to bring it home!

Kyle Reynolds, 39, a four year resident of Port Jefferson Station, gives his thoughts on the game.

“I think it’s going to be a close game,” he said. “Even though I don’t like the Jets, I think they're going to win with a 21-17 score.”

Reynolds continued, adding, “The Jets defense will be the stars of the game. Even though the Steelers have a great defense, the Jets defense will prevail. Either way, I’ll be at watching the game.”

With the game being played at Heinz Field, the Steelers stadium, Michael Giametta, 21, feels the Steelers may have an advantage.

“I am a Jets fan but I think the Jets may lose,” he said. “It’ll be a close game because the Jets don’t play well in the cold; it really is a 50-50 chance.”

With not much optimism for his team, Giametta goes on to say, “The score will be low. Something like 18-8 with Mark Sanchez being the star.”

As for Giametta’s plans for the game he says he's staying put.

“I’ll be home having a party with lots of pizza and lots of Jets fans, and even a few Steeler fans," he said.

Giametta’s father, John Giametta, a Jets fan all of his life and a Port Jefferson Station resident for over 30 years, has high hopes for his team.

“I’m a die hard Jets fan so I think–well hope–they will win,” he said. “I feel strong about the upcoming game and I think the score will be close with the Jets winning 27-23.”

The elder Giametta went on to talk about his predictions for who will be the star of the game.

“I think as long as [Mark] Sanchez plays right, he will be a star,” he said. “I think [Braylon] Edwards, [Santonio] Holmes, and [LaDainian] Tomlinson will all be stars."

His plans for the sports filled evening?

“I plan to stay home, relax in my den and watch the game by myself with my flat screen TV,” said Giametta.

While the men seem to have their loud spoken opinions, Kaitlyn Morel, 20, has her own opinion for the game.

“I think it will be a close game but I feel the Jets will win by a touch down or two, the score being 27-21 with the Jets on top,” she said. “I feel Sanchez is going to be a key player for the game, since he is their quarterback after all.”

Opposed to the elder Giametta’s quiet evening, Morel has loud plans for her Sunday night.

“Everyone is going to come to my house and we'll be watching it there," she said. "My dad and my mom as well so it’s going to be a fun night.”

It would seem to be hard to find a Steelers fan at a time like this but Chris Spangulo, 24, tries to throw some water on all the Jets fever going around. He says his team will be the one to win it.

“It will be a good game, keeping people on their toes,” he said. “Not just because I’m a Steelers fan but I think the Steelers are going to get their revenge on Sunday. I think the game will mimic the score for the Jets and Patriots game being 28-21 with the Steelers dominating.”

Seems that no place on Long Island is safe for a Steelers fan so what are Spangulo’s plans for the game?

“I’ll be at my friend’s house in a room filled with Jets fans watching the game on his 64 inch TV and seeing my team win,” he said. “I can’t wait to see the look on everyone’s face.”

With such high optimism for both teams, it is going to be one good game. The question remains, will New York take home another win or will the Steelers get their revenge? Only one way to find out! Tune into the game at 6:30 p.m. on CBS.
