Updated: Port Jeff Boys Soccer Wins State Championship

Royals beat Maple Hill by score of 2-1.

The boys soccer team from Port Jefferson defeated Maple Hill from Castleton, NY in the New York State championship game on Sunday morning by a score of 2-1, according to reports by @THR_Montgomery. The Maple Hill athletics Twitter account also confirmed the win.

Newsday reported on the state championship game on Sunday evening highlighting the two players who scored in the game.

"Vincent Antonelli and Connor Crovello both scored and the Royals' defense held off a late Maple Hill rally for a 2-1 win," read the report.

In a message to the school community Superintendent Ken Bossert invited people to come to the high school to greet the victorious players as they returned home from upstate New York.

"The first for our soccer program," said Bossert. "And it's the first state championship for Port Jefferson of any kind in 20 years."
