Port Jeff's Rashba Wins 2nd Cross Country Championship

Margot Rashba, a Stony Brook School sophomore, wins 5K at Sunken Meadow State Park.

Margot Rashba, a Stony Brook School sophomore from Port Jefferson won the 5,000 meter race at Sunken Meadow State Park for the second year in a row. The school's website reported that she covered the course in 21:14.00, "besting Southold’s Colette Steele by 32 seconds.

"Rashba is Stony Brook’s first female runner to repeat as champion since Laura Whitney won 5 consecutive titles from 1977-1981," the website reported.

Commenting on placing second behind Rashba, Steele told the Suffolk Times that Rashba "always pushes me real hard."

"I felt good during the race," she said. "I was going faster than usual because of Margot, and I ran well."

Rashba completed her season with a number of awards uncluding, 1st Team All-League, 3rd Team All-County, 4th Team All-Division and the New York State XI Class D Sportsmanship Award.
