Port Jeff Teen Takes Top Honors on International Golf Tour

A Port Jefferson teen took top honors in the International Junior Golf Tour held last weekend.

Gerry Mackedon, 15,  won the Boys 15-19 Division with rounds of 71 and 72 to edge Vinay Ramesh of Newtown, Pa.by two strokes.

Nearly 90 of the region’s best golfers took aim on one of the favorite courses on the tour. The field was represented by juniors from seven states and three countries competing for national rankings and IJGT Merit Points.

“I was glad my short game came through this week.” said Mackedon.

The two-day, 36-hole event took place at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.

The IJGT offers close to 60 two-and three-day events throughout the U.S. each year for ages 9-19. IJGT members represent 45 U.S. states and 43 countries and alumni include Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan, Paula Creamer and other PGA and LPGA Tour players.
