Port Jefferson Boys' Track Team Shines at Invitational

Athletes used the meet to gear up for upcoming divisional, county and state championships.

The varsity boys' track team at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School achieved seven top-ten victories at the William F. Eddy Championship Invitational in Schenectady last week.

Among the results:

  • 1st place: James Burke, mile run (4:17.4)
  • 3rd place: Dennis Walsh, 400m (0:50.3)
  • 5th place: Jasper Rubin Sigler, 200m (0:23.18)
  • 6th place: The 4 x 800 relay team of John Albinson, James Burke, Noah Kirschner and and Dennis Walsh
  • 8th place: Cihad Akkaya, long jump (20 ft. 3 in.)
  • 10th place: Danny Gross, 110m hurdles & 400m hurdles
Debra Ferry, Port Jefferson's athletic director, described the event as an extremely competitive one featuring many teams through New York. “It provided a good tune-up for the team as they head into the divisional, county and state championships,” she said in a statement.
