Area Sailors Race in 25th Annual Port Jefferson Harbor Cup Regatta

Race was first "designed specifically for Port Jefferson Harbor."

On Saturday, sailors raced in 25th annual Port Jefferson Harbor Cup Regatta, according to a story in the Port Times Record.

"Ira Wechterman, a member of the yacht club since 1979 and chair of the Harbor Cup Committee for its first three years, said this was the first race designed specifically for the Port Jefferson Harbor," the paper reported.

"It was organized to bring attention to the beautiful harbor, the beautiful village and the opportunities for sailing and boating in the Port Jefferson area," he said.

Setauket Yacht Club, Mount Sinai Sailing Association and the Stony Brook School all had boats racing in one of three divisions.
