Royals Nab First Place Finishes at Winter Track Regionals

Winter track team members move on to New York State Winter Track Championships.

The boys varsity track team snagged first-place in the 1000-meter run and the 4x800 relay in regional competitions recently. Andrew Keresztes came in first in the 1000-meter run and Cole Conte, James Burke, Andrew Keresztes and Fred Agostino also placed first in the 4x800 relay.

Other Royals who placed at the meet included Benjamin Neiman who took third place in the 55-meter race and James Burke who was fourth in the 1600-meter run.

The track stars then advanced to the New York State Winter Track Championships on Saturday to compete against other athletes from across the state at Cornell University.

In the state championships, Andrew Keresztes placed fourth in the 1000 meter race with a school record time of 2:29.60.

Keresztes is a senior who on Feb. 6 signed an official Letter of Intent for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. .

In this upcoming weekend's New Balance Indoor National Championships at the Armory in New York City Port Jefferson student will compete in a variety of events.

  • Distance Medley Relay: Andrew Keresztes, Ben Neiman, Cole Conte and James Burke
  • Sprint Medley Relay: Cole Conte, Ben Neiman, Dennis Walsh and Andrew Keresztes
  • Shuttle Hurdle Relay: Ben Neiman, Dan Gross, Eric Keresztes and Cole Conte
  • Freshman Mile: James Burke
