Royals Shutout Stony Brook for Homecoming Victory 45-0

Players said that this week they stuck to the game plan, keeping Stony Brook off guard.

Port Jefferson varsity football Royals (2-2) kept the Stony Brook varsity football Bears (0-4) scoreless in Saturday night's Homecoming game.

Heroes: Quarterback Dan Serignese threw for two touchdowns keeping the Royals well ahead of the Bears. "We stuck to our game plan from this week, and were able to keep the defense off guard," Serignese said after the game. Dylan Ernst was able to score twice, rushing, after several 10-plus yard gains. Braden Colluci kicked each one of his six point-after attempts through the up-rights, and tacked on a 29 yard field goal in the first half.

Turning point: After being stopped at the Stony Brook 2 yard line, the Royals took their next drive to score with a 27 yard play-action pass from Serignese to Colluci.  The Royals' defense was able to put pressure on the quarterback and anyone else with the ball well behind the line of scrimmage.

Quote: "We dominated the whole game. Against Southampton we were at just about the same place by halftime, and we let that win slip away. This week we stuck to it in the second half," said Running Back Phil Lanieri after the win.

Bottom Line: The Royals played with proper homecoming pride. They completely shut down the Bears offense. And with the ball, the Royals were determined to post points.

Who's next: The Royals will face Hampton Bays, also 2-2, Saturday at home.  Head coach Jim Mimnaugh said, "Hampton Bays has a tough team. They're well coached and they hit hard. It'll be a good game and that will be our focus for the week."
