Year in Review: Comsewogue Warriors Spring Sports

It's been a year filled with joy and disappointment, injuries and unfortunately no championships.

The spring brought disappointment and excitement for the Warriors.

Disappointment in the play of the respective and the softball teams each of whom finished with losing records. The softball team not only lost their share of games but also lost their star player attack while playing a pickup basketball game in midseason.

“I’m really happy with the team’s efforts,” said head coach Tom Frawley. “Our record doesn’t show it but there was a lot of improvement. I’m very happy with how the bats were this year – we doubled our batting average from a year ago, but not so much the gloves. We just got killed with errors this year.”

The excitement this spring came from the two lacrosse teams.

The girls team finished with an 11-5 overall record–their best in years, made the playoffs but . In fact Comsewogue has never beaten Sayville in girls lacrosse–something to shoot for next year.

The boys team on the other hand wound through the regular season posting and carrying that momentum into the post season. But a championship was not theirs to be had as –a team they beaten in the regular season.

“It was a very successful season,” said head coach Pete Mitchell. “We just came up a little short of our goal. But I’m very proud of our kids going 16-0 in the regular season. You know being undefeated is sometimes good and it’s not. The season came down to one ground ball from one face off, but that’s lacrosse.”

And that’s a wrap on Comsewogue high school sports for the scholastic year 2010-11.
