Firefighters Protect Residential Homes From Brush Fire

Firefighters from both Centereach Fire Department & Selden Fire Department battle gusty winds in am effort to keep a raging brush fire from reaching homes.

On the late afternoon of Wednesday March 26, 2014 the Centereach Fire Department was alerted of a brush fire in the area of 161 Noel Drive. Upon arrival of Centereach Fire Department Chief of Department Derek Anderson he requested units to respond into Noel Drive. He also requested mutual aid from Selden Fire Department for a stump jumper brush truck to the scene. The strong winds made it very difficult for firefighters to keep the fire contained to a small area. The fire with the windy combination also threatened nearby residential homes. The fire only caused minor damage to a wood fence in the backyard of one residence. Firefighters from both Centereach Fire Department and Selden Fire Department used different access points into the woods including one on Noel Drive to gain easy access to the fire. There were no injuries reported. The fire is currently under investigation.
