Auxiliary Raises $231,000 For Mather Hospital

Same amount gifted to Mather Hospital by its auxiliary two years in a row.

was presented with a check for $231,000 by its auxiliary, the second year in a row that the volunteer organization has given that same amount. The money comes from proceed from the group’s , gift shop, raffles, plant sales and other fundraising activities in 2010.

“We would not be able to carry out our mission without the help of these dedicated individuals,” Mather President Kenneth Roberts said at a recent party honoring hospital volunteers where the check was presented.

He also said that volunteers gave over 4200 hours of service last year.

In total, the auxiliary has raised $5.2 million for Mather since the organization was founded more than 60 years ago.

According a hospital spokesperson, the money goes toward running the hospital itself, “although in the past the auxiliary has indicated specific programs for which the donation was targeted.”

During the volunteer appreciation party, the auxiliary also presented seven college awards to junior volunteers.

The college award winners were Alanna Faughnan, Mt. Sinai High School; Amanda Lirosi, Mt. Sinai High School; Matthew Mayers, home schooled through the Homelife Academy; Parisa Saghati, Sachem High School North; Brittany Schultz, Rocky Point High School; Kristen Snelders, ; and Andrew Mack, Chaminade High School.

The teens completed a minimum of 300 hours of service and demonstrated excellence in volunteering.

“Our hospital’s volunteers and auxilians are a vital part of our Mather family,” Roberts said.
