Letter: Raising Awareness For Animal Groups With Port Jeff Pet Adoption Weekend

Meredith Festa says that Art Walk and Pet Adoption Weekend will bring together Long Island animal groups.

You all know me from . Thanks to all of you for your constant .

I also sit on the board for the Economic Development Council for Port Jefferson, NY. We are a committee whose primary purpose is to create initiatives and programs which will enhance the quality of the business districts while balancing the needs and quality of life for all residents.

It’s time for Port Jefferson’s on May 19 and 20, 2012. Port Jefferson Village is inviting the Long Island Community to come support local pet adoption and welfare efforts. We wanted to give the rescue groups that cover the Long Island area the opportunity to get exposure and tell people who they are and what they do. Pet Adoption Awareness events allow an opportunity and a platform for pet rescue groups and humane societies in the area to come together in one venue so they can create public awareness and display the animals they have available for adoption in hopes of finding them all good homes.

There will also be an "Art Walk' around the village that weekend, where Long Island artists that support Animal Rescue will be displaying their work all over town. By combining these two events, we hope to give everyone as much exposure possible to the Long Island community.

Over 30 Animal Welfare and Rescue Groups are attending. Sunday, will be playing a concert during the event. Some of the kids are Junior Guardians, and they are putting on a show to support animal rescue. The kids are very motivated and they are excited about the Junior Guardians program. We are very proud of them.

The local businesses are supporting the event, and will be donating a portion of their sales from the weekend to all the groups attending. They will have a paw in their window.

Pen from the Nowzad Shelter in Afghanistan will also be coming on Sunday.

Robo’s pups, rescued from Afghanistan, will be with Guardians of Rescue on Saturday.

Here are some of the groups being represented. Attendance will vary Saturday to Sunday, as some groups can only come one day.
