Mount Sinai Teen Helps Military Families With Swimming Lessons

Kate Stansbury recognized for her efforts helping military families.

Mount Sinai student Kate Stansbury was recently recognized for her efforts with the Joining Forces initiative, a national movement that calls upon Americans to step up and show their gratitude to members of the armed forces and their families.

As part of her service, Stansbury coordinated free swimming lessons for children of military families at School of Fish Swim and Scuba in Rocky Point. In addition to marketing the lessons, she also created lesson plans and provided her water safety skills by acting as a lifeguard.

Stansbury was recognized by Legis. Sarah Anker at her district office.

“Our members of military families deserve our utmost gratitude and respect,” Anker said. “Kate has shown a tremendous appreciation for our men and women of the armed forces.”
