Hospital aiming to raise $1 million for new 36-bed facility.

A group of volunteers who donate their time to raise funds for Mather Hospital presented a check from the past year's worth of efforts recently, in the form of a $221,000 check.

In addition, three local students earned college scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 for the amount of time they gave to raise funds, which were raised through lobby sales, as well as the Gift Shop and Thrift shop.

“On behalf of the entire Mather Family I thank the Auxiliary for their generous donation and continuing support of the Hospital,” said Mather Hospital President Kenneth Roberts in a statement.

In total, the auxiliary has raised $5.6 million for Mather since the organization was founded more than 60 years ago.

“We would not be able to carry out our mission without the help of our dedicated Auxilians and Volunteers," Roberts said. "Over the years they have donated millions of hours of service and raised millions of dollars to help fund building projects and purchase new equipment.”

The students who received the scholarships were Mt. Sinai students Mattea Cai (303 hours donated) and Ryan Nardin (570), as well as Miller Place High Schooler Allison Ragozzino, who donated over 400 hours of her time.

Last year, $231,000 was raised to go toward a patient care unit – the same amount as the year before. The hospital is aiming to raise $1 million toward the proposed construction of a 36-all-single-bed patient care unit.
