Port Jeff Station Residents Help Clean Up the Town For Earth Day

Families in Port Jefferson Station neighborhoods were out in force to join the Great Brookhaven Clean-Up.

On Saturday, residents of Port Jefferson Station joined thousands of their neighbors across the region for the . The clean-up is held every year in cooperation with Keep America Beautiful, Inc., and was expected to draw almost 3 million volunteers in more than 15,000 communities across America.

In Port Jefferson Station, neighbors met on School Drive to take part in cleaning up.

“Friends, families, and residents will be cleaning up the sump area which is adjacent to a playground,” said Dina Simoes-Rodrigues before the event on Friday. “The Town of Brookhaven has donated bags, gloves, tee-shirts, etc. so if anyone wants to come participate, they can just show up and they'll be greeted with smiles.”

There were also clean-ups on Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai Harbor, by the Terryville Trolley and East Beach in Port Jefferson village.

Curby, the Town’s recycling mascot headed down to the clean-up sites across Brookhaven to join in the fun. Some familes who couldn’t make it on Saturday went out a day early to get a head start and join the cause to clean up the neighborhood.
