Five teens were indicted this week in relation to six incidents, including five burglaries, spanning from Selden to Miller Place to Setauket and Port Jefferson.
A handful of teens were indicted this week after being accused of a rash of residential home burglaries within multiple area hamlets, including one on Shady Tree Lane in Port Jefferson. Suffolk County Police announced on May 3 that they had arrested four individuals after pulling them over on Black Locust Avenue in Setauket. An indictment unsealed this week added a fifth teen - the twin brother of one defendant. According to the office of District Attorney Thomas Spota, the Shady Tree Lane home was burglarized on April 19, the fourth of five homes to be broken into by the group - the last of four houses burglarized over an eight-day stretch. According to police, a 35 to 40-year-old man was found around on the grounds of Clinton Avenue Elementary School around midnight on Wednesday with a head wound.
A man was hospitalized and placed in serious condition early Wednesday night after Suffolk County Police said he was found with a head injury on the grounds of Clinton Avenue Elementary School in Port Jefferson Station. Suffolk Police said the man, believed to be 35 to 40 years old, was found at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday by school security. He was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center. Comsewogue School District Superintendent Joseph Rella did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The man was reported to have been found naked, though Suffolk Police said they could not confirm. It was not immediately clear how the man was injured. Police said on Thursday they are still investigating the incident.

Officers spotted man who they say had multiple DWI convictions blowing a red light on Route 83.
A 53-year old Lake Ronkonkoma man who, according to police, has had his license suspended 23 times and was driving with a license already revoked for multiple DWI-offenses, was arrested on DWI charges after Suffolk County Police pulled him over in Mount Sinai early Thursday morning. At about 1:45 a.m., Steven Turner, from the Suffolk County Police Safe-T Section, said he saw a 1994 Chevrolet pick-up truck making a left turn through a red light at the intersection of Route 83 and Coram-Mt. Rocky Point Kimberly Buscher, 33, of Ridge, was arrested April 28 in Setauket and charged with petty larceny. Buscher is accused of taking a comforter from Kohl's in Rocky Point without paying for it, and was later arrested on Route 347 in Setauket. James Forster, 64, of Nesconset, was arrested May 1 in Rocky Point and charged with petty larceny. Forster allegedly placed assorted items in his coat without paying for them at the Waldbaum's in Rocky Point. New officers recognized by Brookhaven Town officials at annual installation.
Newly installed Mount Sinai Fire Department officers were presented with certificates of recognition by Brookhaven Town officials at the department's May 5 installation. An 87-year old Port Jefferson Station woman was found dead in a car that had been submerged in the water off the Brookhaven Town docks on West Broadway in Port Jefferson Thursday morning. After a 911 caller tipped off police at 6:43 a.m. that a car was in Port Jefferson Harbor with only the roof visible, police discovered Anne Murray, 87, of Brook Lane inside. She was the only occupant of the white Toyota Corolla. Murray was transported to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson where she was pronounced dead. Police say that they do not know yet how the car got into the water. Suffolk County homicide detectives are investigating the death. According to police, Berendowski stole two bottles of wine from Bella Maria restaurant in Coram. • Yan Rodriguez, 21, of Coram, was arrested in Port Jefferson Station on April 28 and charged with assault in the third degree. Police said Rodriguez punched someone in the nose on West Broadway in Port Jefferson, causing bleeding and swelling. Looks as if Terryville followed PJS and Uptown in what it has become. A homeless man passing out by elementary school should not happen in an average neighborhood. Dont get me wrong PJS has some average areas such as some parts of Norwood Rd and Old Town Rd, But it seems that things are heading in the wrong direction.   more ›
