When a few Greek families came together to form the Greek Orthodox Church in the late 1950s, little did anyone know howMore far the congregation would come in 50 years. In that time, the church bought its current site, built a magnificent church in the traditional Byzantine style and membership exploded. The church's core is its religious spirit and teachings, but there is also a cultural affinity that helps bind the families together. Along with many other events, the church holds an annual Hellenic Festival where people in the community can come and enjoy some Greek culture and experience the church.
Polish-American Independent Club

In the early 1930s, Polish-American farmers came together in Port Jefferson and created a club to celebrate and fosterMore Polish culture and traditions. Polish girls and boys were encouraged to attend dances to hopefully get together and fall in love. Today, all ethnic groups are encouraged to join the club. The Polish-American Independent Club holds annual events like its big clambake. The club also raises money and donates to local nonprofits. Members enjoy a banquet hall, a dance floor, a bar with large-screen televisions, a communal vegetable garden and horseshoe pits.
