The organization provides emergency medical services to a 16 square mile area of Suffolk County, which encompasses 30,000 individuals. It provides 24 hour response services, operating several ambulances and emergency vehicles. In addition to medical emergencies, it responds to technical rescue as well as providing first response life safety to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Volunteers are always welcome and are trained by the Corps.
The Port Jefferson Fire Department is responsible for the fire safety and emergency rescue operations of the Village…More of Port Jefferson and the Village of Belle Terre. The area they protect encompasses about 4 square miles and almost 9,000 individuals. Besides area residences they also service the National Grid Power Station, the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry Co., 2 hospitals, 4 schools, health-care facilities, a LIRR station, a very popular harbor, beach and wetland area that hosts a large number of recreational and commercial marine vessels, tourists and many other facilities and businesses.
In addition to five companiesthe Port Jefferson Fire Department also has a ladies auxiliary and a junior fire department.
