Almost Two Years Later, Old Blockbuster Still Empty

It's been almost two years since the Blockbuster in Port Jefferson Station followed in line with the other local franchises and closed its doors.

It is one of the many vacancies along Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station, and now one of the longest standing ones.

After it first closed, Patch profiled the building as available and asked what readers would like to see at the location, and the responses were mostly negative about the area.

Mike G wrote, "My advice to a person who interesting to open any business around port Jefferson stays away from here. Rents are so high, big parking problem more than 50 percent of businesses are for sale and most of the business [are] going out of business every year."

User Americanivory added, "that parking lot is a horror to get in and out of. Plus the big problem of the homeless hanging around this parking lot and the Jefferson Plaza Shopping Center."

Now about two years after closing and the location remains vacant, with just three stores in the desolate center. The building is listed as available by Island Associates Real Estate, and those interested can call 631-982-2100.

With the time that has passed since its closing, have any of the major issues in the area improved enough to make this a desired location for a new business? Do you think something new will open here any time soon? Let us know in the comments section below.
