Lainie's Way Staying Put in Old Space, Opening 2 Shops

Shop to open in two locations, rather than move entirely into recently-opened new space.

Lainie's Way owner Lainie Litovski announced just three weeks ago that her shop would be opening up in a new space up the street. But instead of moving entirely to a new location, it turns out that she'll just end up opening two stores instead – keeping the decorative accessories part of her inventory at her old space at 109 Main St.

While both shops will keep the name Lainie's Way, the new space at 216 Main St. will hold the half of her shop that sold items such as specialty toys and games. The new space being the larger of the two spaces – 1,200 square feet compared to about 800 down the road – more games and toys will be available for the families looking for something hands-on to do with their kids.

The decision marks yet another stage in the evolution Litovsky's business: Lainie's Way started off as Rockstone three years before it hit Main Street, offering largely marble and stone (hence the name) items to place around the house. When she put out some wine chines and flags as a lure to customers, customers started asking: "Where are the wind socks?"

Decorative accessories and garden sculptures, once she moved to Main Street, turned into an opportunity to Litovsky to sell something she feels personally passionate about: hands-on games for kids, whose parents were browsing the accessory items in Lainie's Way.

"You have to know how to use a computer, but kids get a lot of screen time throughout the day," she said. "So I think it's important that they balance that with more classic, hands-on toys."

Litovsky hopes to be open in her new space – or, old space, depending on how you look at it – by the weekend as some finishing touches get done at 109 Main St.
