Bail Raised on Woman Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run

According to prosecutors, Janice Montalvo has a long history of driving without a license.

Bail was raised on a Centereach woman reportedly responsible for a fatal hit-and-run on Route 112 in Terryville just over two weeks ago that left a local man dead.

Fifty one-year-old Bradford Packer was riding his bicycle on his way to see a movie around 9:15 p.m. on July 11 when police allege that Janice Montalvo struck him in her Hyundai Sonata, proceeding to flee the scene westbound on Route 347 before being caught by police the following day.

According to Newsday, at court on Thursday, county prosecutors unveiled the fact that Montalvo had her license suspended 10 times previously on nine different occasions.

According to online court records, Montalvo pleaded guilty in April to aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, paying a fine of $500 as a result.

Newsday reported that Suffolk County Judge Fernando Camacho raised bail from $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond to $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond.

Montalvo is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality, a felony, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. She previously pleaded not guilty.
