Comsewogue School Board Race: Candidate Francisca Alabau-Blatter

Francisca Alabau-Blatter is one of four candidates running for two seats on the Comsewogue school board.

Current school board trustee Francisca Alabau-Blatter is running for a second three-year term on the Comsewogue Board of Education.

A Port Jefferson Station resident since 1995, she has three children attending school in the district.

When it came time to adopt a budget this year, Alabau-Blatter voted in favor of adopting the current $81.1 million proposal.

"It’s a very sensible one," she said. "The kids are not going to be suffering. ... We’re trying very hard to not cut anything out of their education."

Alabau-Blatter works as a Spanish teacher in a different school district. She said her position as both a teacher and a parent as well as her involvement in Girl Scouts and other community activities make her qualified to maintain her seat on the school board.

She described her stance as "totally against unfunded mandates and all the extra testing that the kids have to go through." She said she is aware of the effects of bullying in schools and is also concerned about the financial future of the district.

"I think it always comes down to the vision and the opinions of the community," she said. "Right now the budget is No. 1. People have expressed concerns about how stretched out they already are."
