Collage Artist Examines the Conscious Mind With New Collection

Fresh presents a collection of newly inspired paint and collage work in Jon Duci's first solo exhibit at Toast.

For the remaining month of August, Fresh will be presenting for the first time, a solo art show by Jon Duci at .

Originally from Bellmore, the School of Visual Arts graduate has become well immersed in the New York art scene, having exhibited his work in various galleries in Manhattan and on Long Island.

“I have had a bunch of shows around the Lower East Side, Chelsea and Williamsburg, Brooklyn,” he said.

For his first collaborative effort with Fresh, entitled, "Here and Not Here", Duci created a collection of personal, layered and energetic pieces made from acrylic paint and collage materials.

“It just comes from my internal state, a reflection of what is going on in my conscious mind and how it can relate to the collective consciousness,” he explained. “The different pieces individually address issues about the mind, how you perceive your own existence and consciousness.”

Duci successfully manages to combine both a spontaneous and predesigned methodology to his work – each piece is cleanly rendered to completion and amusing enough to invite art enthusiasts to return for another viewing. The majority of his work on display features a combination of images that are simultaneously humorous and subtle in its examination of thought provoking context.

Several of the more popular pieces on display include a small series of 10 inch by 10 inch square canvases entitled, What Time Is It?, composed of  bold color blocks and retro style photographs of people.

The United States of Mona Lisa, a large sized graphic collage combining the national flag with the iconic image of Leonardo DaVinci’s masterpiece and Duci’s large acrylic paintings of abstract faces continue to remain crowd favorites.

Walking down East Main Street you can still glance inside and notice patrons taking a break from their meals in order to approach the terracotta colored walls of the coffeehouse and get a closer look at intricate details of the various collages.

Duci’s collection will remain on display until September.
