Question: Do You Worry About Security in Port Jeff?

As we approach the tenth anniversary of 9/11, Patch wonders if you feel safe in Port Jefferson.

Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri is reportedly stepping into the role as leader of Al-Qaeda after the . While some news agencies report that al-Zawahiri has been the de facto leader of Al-Qaeda for many years already, this brings the terrorist organization back into the news once again and with the tenth anniversary of September 11th approaching at the end of the summer it's natural to be concerned about security.

Recently, the received a Federal Homeland Security grant to to their security measures. In a recent conversation with Mayor Garant, she told about how the cars were lined up for miles to get onto the ferry for days after September 11th while people tried to get off Long Island. (Remember all those discussion about how to evacuate Long Island back in the 1980s when the Shoreham nuclear power plant was proposed?)

Ten years later, it's easy to be a little more complacent about terrorism on American soil, especiallyy in a quiet little village like Port Jefferson. But with the ferry and the LIPA power plant right on a deep water harbor, these are things to think about.
