5 Great Weekend BBQ Brews At Brewtopia

Having a BBQ this weekend? We bet you've probably gone to the butcher for the meat to put on the grill, but have you picked up the right brews to go with it? Mark Romano, owner of Brewtopia in Port Jefferson, had these summery suggestions.

"These are the beers of the summer, the flavors of summer," Romano said, referring to lemon, orange, and coriander.

He recommends Victory's Summer Love (5.5 percent ABV), Spider Bite's White Bite (4.5 percent ABV), and Shipyard's Summer Ale (5.1 percent ABV). "You mow the lawn, you get sweaty and you want to chug a nice, cold beer," Romano said. "These are the beers I drink in the summer." The Shipyard brew he recommended despite the label's corny-looking lobster drawing.

Romano said Peak Organic Brewing Co.'s Summer Session (5 percent ABV) is particularly refreshing. "It's so easy to drink that I drank two in a row, which I don't normally do," he said.

Finally, he picked Petrus Belgian Barrel-Aged Wheat Ale (7.3 percent ABV). "If other beers accompany burgers, hot dogs and pork, this one goes with steak," Romano said. "This is so yummy and tart and refreshing."
