Charles A. Squires Was Known as the "Father of Port Jefferson Station"

Launched Port Jefferson Echo newspaper and was acyive in community organizations.

This week we asked you to guess who the Port Jefferson Station reisident in this photo is.

George Moratis was the first with the right answer.

"Charles A. Squires," he wrote int he comments. "My family had lived on Lincoln Ave off Hallock, Rt.25A... Which was part of his 'Lincoln Park Gardens' development of 1908."

Charles A. Squires (1855-1934) was known as the “father of Port Jefferson Station.”

According to Port Jefferson village Historian Ken Brady, Squires was postmaster of the Echo Post Office, established the Port Jefferson Echo newspaper, served on the Brookhaven Town Board of Assessors, and was active in several community organizations.

"A realtor for 48 years, Squires developed the Belle Croft, Echo Plaza, Linden Place, and Bergen Estates subdivisions," he wrote in a description of the photo that appears above and is from the Port Jefferson village historical archive.
