Library to Hold Harry Potter Party Next Week

Port Jefferson Free Library won a grant package to hold a party for the 15th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Port Jefferson Free Library will be celebrating the 15th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in fun fashion after winning a grant from the book's publisher recently, just one of 15 libraries nationwide that won a gift prize to celebrate the occasion.

Next Tuesday, the library will be holding two separate events – one at 2 p.m. for younger teens and another at 3 p.m. for older teens – which will include wand-making, fortune tellers, quiddich hoop construction classes and more.

The packages, given out by publisher Scholastic, includes 100 copies of the book, with a new cover illustration; one paperback box set of all seven books, signed by illustrator Kazu Kibuishi; a kit with themed activities; as well as $100 to go toward the celebration.

The parties will be held in the meeting room of the library, said Monica Williams, a teen librarian with PJFL.

"The whole meeting room will be transformed into a Harry Potter wonderland so it should be amazing!"
