From Smithtown Patch: FBI: Smithtown Hacker Bent on Revenge After Losing PromotionA Smithtown man was arrested Thursday after the FBI said he hacked into his former employer's computer network and caused $90,000 in damages – all because he lost out on a promotion.The FBI said Michael Meneses, 41, was a software engineer at a local manufacturer of high-voltage power supplies when he resigned in December 2011 after getting upset about not moving up the company chain.

From Commack Patch: Motorcyclist Killed in Commack Crash. A motorcyclist was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning at the intersection of Vanderbilt Parkway and Commack Road in Commack. According to Suffolk County Police, Anthony Jacovino was riding a motorcycle southbound on Commack Road when his vehicle collided with a 2005 Dodge pickup truck, driven by George Custance, that was traveling westbound on Vanderbilt Parkway, at approximately 4:55 a.m.

From Three Village Patch: Teacher Hopes to Erase Social Cruelty with Get.A.Voice Foundation. The idea of bullying is not a new one, but Laurie Mendel has a new name for it: social cruelty. "Language used today is so much more powerful and vicious at school," said Mendel, an art teacher at Murphy Junior High School. "Teasing and bullying have been around forever, we know that. With technology and the media ... the social cruelty crisis has really escalated." Mendel is the founder and CEO of the Get.A.Voice Foundation, an organization she established in 2003 to tackle the growing problem of bullying in schools.

From Patchogue Patch: Fire Engulfs Trailer at Car Dealership. A trailer was reportedly ablaze Friday afternoon at the Stevens 112 Ford location on Route 112 in Patchogue. Michael Governara, manager at Stevens 112 Ford, told Patch that the fire began around noon due to an unknown cause, and the North Patchogue Fire Department arrived and had it fully extinguished around 30 minutes later. According to photos taken on scene, the fire fully engulfed the vehicle. Governara told Patch that no one was injured, and the fire stayed contained to the trailer.
