PHOTO: A Blast From the Past When Gloria Blew Through

Pictures from 1985 show power lines down on Hallock Avenue in Port Jefferson.

LIPA's woes are not so new. Linemen worked overtime restoring power outages, and replacing cracked poles and downed lines from Hurricane Sandy. In 1985, Hurricane Gloria hit Long Island and it was LIPA's predecessor that had to deal with fixing up the damage left in its wake.

This photo, provided to us by local resident George Moraitis, shows what LILCO had to deal with on Hallock Avenue near Davis Avenue. There are also a few photos to show what the street looked like just before Sandy hit.

"I thought that we would lose them again," Moraitis said.
