Long E Costs Port Jefferson Man on Jeopardy

Fidelito Cortes, of Port Jefferson Station was dinged for what the show said was a mispronunciation of a Seinfeld character name

We'll take the category "Uh, You're Kidding Us Alex, Right?" for $200.

A Port Jeff Station man who competed on the quiz show 'Jeopardy' last week was dinged for what the show said was a mispronunciation of Elaine, a character from Seinfeld.

Fidelito Cortes,  who was playing under the category, 'Name That TV Role', was given the answer "'Seinfeld': Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Cortes answered "Elaine", but apparently his use of a short "E" in the pronunciation and not a long "E" caused judges to say he was incorrect.

"It was EE-laine, not UH-laine, Fidelito,"said host Alex Trebek to Cortes. "That's why the judges ruled against you on that one."

This could be a Seinfeld episode.

Cortes, a 54 year old self-employed writer, did go on to win the game, taking more than $45,000 in winnings. And for the record Alex, we think Fidelito had it right. Watch the video here and let us know what you think.
