President of The North Brookhaven Chamber Of Commerce Welcomes Chick-fil-A Development Plan

Jennifer Dzvonar says Chick-fil-A would be a great addition to the town and would help boost Port Jefferson Station economy.

The Port Jefferson Station Civic Association voted and approved a proposal to build the first Chick-fil-A in Suffolk County in Port Jefferson Station. With the civic on their side, the developers plan to bring a formal proposal to the Brookhaven Town Board on Dec 3.

The plan right now would be to develop the new restaurant at the former car dealership on Route 347 near Terryville Road.

Since the announcement, many have stepped forward with their thoughts and feelings on developing a new restaurant on the dealership lot. Some have agreed saying it will bring more local business and boost the economy, while others still think the property could be used for something other than a fast food restaurant.

The developers have also had to battle controversy after it's owner made comments that his restaurants would only be supporting traditional marriage. Shortly after the anti-gay remarks were made, the company released a statement saying, “Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena."

Although there has been some controversy, president of The North Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce said this development will be a wonderful addition to Port Jefferson Station.

"We welcome a new Owner Operated business into the area. The construction of the project will be utilizing local contractors, architects, etc... (which will create jobs and boost "OUR" economy in our area). The buildings upon completion will enhance the area with the beautiful plantings planned and the parking being located in the rear of the establishment. The operation and the company culture of the proposed Chik-Fil-A, with a direct link to the community, will be a benefit," said Jennifer Dzvonar.

"This will be the first establishment on Long Island so it will draw some new people to our area to promote tourism, to shop in our other local owner operated stores, and to spend money in our community to enhance our economy. With the esthetics in the Port Jeff Station / Terryville area improving,  other local businesses or developers or new businesses will want to come to our area to establish themselves and clean up the many other vacant and blighted locations within the town. Residents and visitors will see the true value of our area and appreciate it."
