Recently Adopted Dog Goes Missing, Owners Are Seeking Port Jeff Residents Help

Marcy went missing near Williams Street in Port Jefferson Station and has yet to be found since yesterday afternoon.

A family took to Facebook to ask residents to keep a look out for their missing dog, Marcy. She was recently adopted from Last Chance Animal Rescue. Shortly after her adoption, she was in the back yard and jumped the fence, taking off near William Street in Port Jefferson Station.

Since the Facebook post, sightings have been pouring in. Those possible sightings include: Feasts for Beasts in Mount Sinai, Pathmark on 347 near 112, and possibly Infant Jesus Church.

According to the Facebook post, Marcy is wearing a purple hoodie and a pink collar with her owner’s information on a dog tag. She is currently wearing their old dog's tag, which has the name Sandy on it.

Although they are hoping to find the dog as soon as possible the family asked to be slow when approaching her because "she is very shy" but they did say she might come over to you if you crouch down with a can of dog food.

Sue Braun Sugar made the post on Facebook and said if anyone sees her out and about to call her cell 631-903-5589. Braun-Sugar is with the adoption company that had her before she was adopted out.

Update: 11/26 10:22 a.m. -- UPDATE from Kathy Devlin-Huber:  As amazed as we all are that Marcy survived 2 hits, we're doubting she could have climed that steep hill and feel she may be hiding on the lower area of the woods or in a yard of the homes right on Main St.  We've had people in the area looking in those woods for over an hour, knocking on doors and asking home owners if our volunteers can look on their property for her.

Update: 11/26 9:15 a.m. -- UPDATE from Kathy Devlin-Huber: There were rumors last night that a dog matching Marcy's description was hit by a car. No further information was available at the time. Then this morning, the woman who tried to help her just contacted LCAR saying it's definitely Marcy. She actually was hit two times, but that she got away from her and took off into the woods behind her house across from Infant Jesus.

We have people heading there now to search the woods! If anyone wants to lend a hand head over to Infant Jesus. It's the woods behind the homes on Main St. South of the USA gas station. Dress warm and be careful.
