A.G.: 'Abusive' Photos Taken of Local Nursing Home Patients

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced on Wednesday that two certified nurses' aides have been charged with taking gruesome, illegal photographs of 11 patients at a trio of area nursing homes.

The A.G. reported that the aides, both Centereach residents, violated the patients' privacy and trust, taking photos of one patient's bedsore, a video of a dementia patient "riveted with fear," and other instances Schneiderman called "abusive and alarming."

DOT: Land Cleared Near Pathmark Part of Route 112 Improvements

Questions have been raised by civic leaders and residents about what was going on on Route 347 near the Pathmark Shopping center in Port Jefferson Station. The land was cleared over the last week or so with no sign of what the work was being done for.

Some suggested that the construction was to expand the parking lot at the adjacent shopping center or it was part of road construction.

Off-Duty Officer Revives Man Suffering Heart Attack in Mt. Sinai

Suffolk police announced Friday evening that an off-duty officer revived an 86-year-old man suffering a heart attack at a store in Mt. Sinai on Friday afternoon.

Police said Lance Prager, an off-duty Emergency Service Section officer who just left training for Advanced Life Support as part of the Suffolk County MedCAT Team, witnessed the elderly man fall to the floor while at Agway on Route 25A in Mt. Sinai. He determined the man had no pulse and wasn't breathing, and started CPR while a store employee retrieved his medical bag from his car.

Nonprofit Offers Shelter to Disabled Couple Denied a Home

While a developmentally disabled couple that married in April remains in court with Port Jefferson Station-based Maryhaven and another nonprofit service provider for not allowing them to live together, one East End provider has offered the couple the opportunity to get out of court and into a home with one another.
