What Do You Think of Port Jefferson's Fresh Coat of Paint?

Some parts of the village recently got a refreshed look.

Back in March, Port Jefferson Patch delivered a gallery showing the signs of wear-and-tear in the village, noting that superstorm Sandy and the February blizzard, among other storms, had really taken a toll on the buildings and fixtures in town.

Fast forward to June, when several buildings in town, including the Harbor Square Mall and Chandler Square, got a fresh coat of paint.

Tom Schafer, the president of the village's Business Improvement District and owner of two area eateries, said it's normal – and necessary – for the village to get a touch-up every spring.

"One thing that’s different about Port Jefferson than some of the other villages on Long Island is we’re right on the water and we get hammered by the nor’easters and the weather," he said. "It ages quickly up there. Every year we have to make efforts to freshen it up."

Schafer added: "Hopefully a little bit of sunshine and a fresh coat of paint, we can put that all behind us and move forward with a smile."
