It offers a respite from the Sound if the waters are a little rough and can be a great place to raft up your boat with fellow boaters. The water is calm and great for swimming. You can take a dink up to the shoreline.

According to various reports, the cove was dug out in the early twentieth century by a sand mining company. The dunes surrounding the cove offer brilliant views of Port Jefferson harbor and the Long Island Sound. In the wooded areas on top of the hills are little trails to explore. Some people also refer to the area as Mt. Misery Cove.

The moorings scattered about the cove are private so you can't just hook up to them but there are plenty of places to anchor up. Head in early to get a good spot.
