Port Jefferson Documentary Series – SPECIAL HOLIDAY SCREENING OF THE DOCUMENTARY "BABIES"

BABIES: A Story Following Four Babies From Around the World
The adventure of a lifetime begins…

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Thomas Balmès, from an original idea by producer Alain Chabat, Babies simultaneously follows four babies in different locations around the world – from birth to first steps. The children are, respectively, in order of on-screen introduction: Ponijao, who lives with her family near Opuwo, Namibia; Bayarjargal, who resides with his family in Mongolia, near Bayanchandmani; Mari, who lives with her family in Tokyo, Japan; and Hattie, who resides with her family in the United States, in San Francisco. Re-defining the non-fiction art form, Babies joyfully captures on film the earliest stages of the journey of humanity that are at once unique and universal to us all.

The Port Jefferson Documentary Series, sponsored by the Greater Port Jefferson and Northern Brookhaven Arts Council, brings the directors, stars, or experts for each film into the theater for an up-close and personal question and answer session. The guest speaker for this film will be Joan F. Kuchner, PhD, Director of Child and Family Services at Stony Brook University

Babies will be shown as a special bonus film at the end of the Fall 2010 season. Although not part of the regular series, this film is a joyous and appropriate way to start the holiday season, and one that our audience is sure to enjoy.
