LA Fitness Health Club To Replace Old Telephone Company Building in Port Jeff Station

Plans to knock down structure on Route 112 and put up a two-story fitness center.

A national fitness chain is looking to come to Port Jefferson Station in a big way. The application to build an LA Fitness health club is on the decision calendar for the Brookhaven Town Planning Board’s next meeting on Monday evening at Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville. Port Plaza, the company that runs the shopping center, is listed as the applicant.

If all goes well the old telephone company building on Route 112 just north of Port Plaza will be torn down and a new 45,000 square foot, two-story fitness center will be built on the roughly 18-acre property. There is a plan to build a freestanding bank there as well.

Port Jefferson Station Terryville Civic Association President Ed Garboski said that the developer met with the group and he felt that they were very cooperative and listened to their concerns. He said the association had made some requested changes to the plans and the developers heard their ideas. The company told them it would consider planting drought resistant plants to help save water. He also hoped they would consider discounted memberships for high school students to encourage fitness and for community members.
